- What is plagiarism?
- While this is one type of plagiarism, "borrowing", "copying" or "using" information from a source without proper citations are also plagiarism.
- In other words, plagiarism is stealing someone else's work and lying about it afterward.

- Step 2: Title Page
- Note: Be sure not to use your name in the running head because it will need to be removed for masked review.
- The title should contain no more than 12 words and be typed in uppercase and lowercase letters, centered between the left and right margins, and positioned in the upper half of the page.

- The author note is comprised of 5 paragraphs. Only use the paragraphs you feel are pertinent to your situation. (Students note: this section is not required on dissertations or theses).

- Step 3: Abstract
- Readers frequently read the abstract to decide if they want to read the entire article. A good abstract is accurate, non evaluative, coherent, readable and concise.
- Note: See section 2.04, page 24-27 for specific examples of what should be included in an abstract for empirical studies, literature reviews, theory-orientated papers, methodological papers and case studies.

- Step 4: Body of Paper (Text)
- The first line of the body of the paper should be the title from the title page.

- Step 5: Citing References In the Text
- **NOTE: Be aware that many software packages are available to assist with APA reference formatting. Ensure your program correctly formats and indents the references. It is not acceptable to submit an incorrectly formatted article and simply 'blame' the software for doing it wrong!
- APA uses an author, date format to cite references in the body of the text.
